New Moves, Old Moves

So, I’m dusting off this platform, and moving to a new way of distributing what I hope will be more regular critical work by linking to a new Substack page: https://hollycrocker.substack.com. Despite my neglect, my site is mostly just fine, and I’ll be working to update all the sections as I start writing in more public ways.

Back in January, after a few months that saw several negative changes in my life, I decided to burn down all my old social media accounts. That was in part because I was targeted by trolls back in the fall, and in part because I just couldn’t with the platforms that I had used (and loved) for more than a decade. When I started this site in 2018, it was because I was having trouble sustaining a relationship with Fb on account of the abuses uncovered by the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Those revelations seem slightly quaint now, but my disquiet also seems extremely prescient: my unease was real, and it never went away. I miss the folks I used to keep up with, but the quiet has yielded new work and new directions that have been sustaining during some very dark moments.

The exciting news: after 19 years at the University of South Carolina, I am moving!! This summer I will become the Hale Family Director of Women’s and Gender Studies and Professor of English at Boston College. I am thrilled to say that my partner will also be a law prof at BC, and that our kiddo is looking forward to exploring new domains in the northeast. I’ll have more to say about this change as things unfold, but I’m scrambling to finish this AY, and to get some projects into moveable shape as I pack boxes and find new digs. If you need to reach me, my gmail is the way to go (Holly.A.Crocker@gmail.com) as my sc email will disappear in the coming months.

More soon!!
